Description:  Tour 3 acres of Daniel Boone Native Gardens, next to Horn in the West.  Brian Antczak, Horticulturist will lead tour.  Located near downtown Boone, N.C., this garden contains an outstanding collection of native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers. More than 200 species of plant varieties provide a progression of blooms throughout the growing season.  Members are invited to have lunch at Red Onion in Boone following tour.

Blueberry Picking

Cost:  The u-pick price is $10 per gallon.

 

Description:  Blueberries are usually available from late June to early August. They are open 7 days a week, 8 AM – 6 PM, Sunday until 5 pm. 

The u-pick price is $10 per gallon.  Old Orchard Creek is a historic Appalachian mountain farm in Lansing, NC, raising blueberries using sustainable farming practices. Come visit and enjoy hiking, star-gazing, magnificent views, in-season blueberry picking, or simply rocking on the front porch. Their cabins are available for rental all year.  Stop at the General Store before or after for tea and scones or peruse for unique gifts from local artisans. 

 

Time and Transportation:  Thursday, July 14, 9 am.  Meet at Rumpole parking  to car pool.  Arrival at orchard around 10:30 am.

Linville Falls Winery
Tour and Wine Tasting

Cost:  Vineyard Tour: $10.00 per person; Tasting & Vineyard Tour: $20.00 per person

 

Description:  Join us for guided tour of winery and grounds.  The 40 acre vineyard and farm is situated just north of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Linville Gorge in a fertile valley between hills filled with rows of lush, green vines.  Grape varieties include Seyval Blanc, Vidal Blanc, Noiret, Marquette, Petit Verdot, Marechal Foch, and our flagship grape, Riesling. But throughout the farm you'll also find blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, heirloom apples, pumpkins, corn, and of course, Christmas Trees. At an elevation of 3,200-3,400 feet, the grapevines thrive in our mountain climate.  Afterwards, enjoy a flight of wine at your leisure.   This is the first time in 2 years that they are offering tours.  Food truck is Accardi Brothers Brick Oven Pizza.  Music by Hogan’s Heroes starts at 3 p.m.

 

Date and Time:  Friday, August 5.  Leave Rumpole parking lot at 10:15 am, arriving for tour at 11:30 a.m.

Arborcrest Gardens Tour

Open to:  Members only.  Maximum 14 members to ride in golf cart.

Cost:  FREE!

 

Description:  Arborcrest Gardens is a private and gated 25-acre ornamental plant evaluation garden located in Boone, NC. They grow and evaluate over 13,000 different species and cultivars of trees, shrubs, perennials, ground covers, and bulbs. They also maintain a large vegetable/fruit test garden.  Dr. Stanley, owner, may be available to talk with the guests and describe the vegetable test gardens. 

Guests can walk the paved garden paths that meander through the gardens, taking pictures and identifying plants.  Plants are well labeled, and Josh, man of many talents and golf cart driver, can answer your questions.  Last year we visited in late June.  This time we will see different  plants, shrubs and trees in bloom.

 

Date and Time:  Friday, September 30, 10am.  Members can carpool to location.  Parking is limited

Guests can either walk the garden or ride in the golf cart.  If you wish to only ride in the cart, call Lynda Steele at 239-292-2910 to reserve your spot.
